Admin Panel Differences of Magento® 1 versus Magento® 2
With the release of Magento 2, one of the key features that was updated included the admin panel. Below are some of the key differences between Magento 1 and Magento 2:
In Magento 1, the menu position is horizontal and the submenu displays while hovering on the menu item. In Magento 2, the menu position is vertical and the sub menu slides out while clicking on a parent item.
In Magento 1, all of configurations for your store are under System > Configuration. In Magento 2, all of the configurations are under Stores > Configuration.
This section does not exist in Magento 1.
In Magento 2, there is a new menu item named Marketing. This area contains all of the subsections for Promotions, Communications, SEO & Search as well as User Content.
CMS Content Management
In Magento 1, the CMS Content section listed out Pages, Static Blocks, Widgets and Polls. In Magento 2, the content section has a new subsection named Design, which hosts Configuration, Themes and Schedules.
Additionally, Magento 2 allows for users to customize and save their views. Users can also customize the order in which columns display on the page using drag and drop technology. This makes managing large store catalogs easier than ever before. In Magento 1, these features did not exist.
Further, Magento 2 allows for easier product creation, including adding videos. In Magento 1, users had to purchase an extension in order to add videos.
While there are many other features that are different, hands-down, Magento 2 is more intuitive and user-friendly. With its modern design approach, managing a store is now easier than ever.
